Chris Hemsworth Joins Forces in Thrilling ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ Crossover Epic
Chris Hemsworth is set to dive into another major film franchise. Known for his roles as Marvel’s Thor and the villain Dementus in George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” Hemsworth is now in discussions to star in the upcoming crossover between the “Transformers“ and “G.I. Joe” franchises from Paramount and Hasbro.
This would be Hemsworth’s second role within the “Transformers” universe, as he already voices young Optimus Prime, originally known as Orion Pax, in the animated film “Transformers One,” which premieres in theaters on September 20.
The crossover project will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment serving as executive producers.
The “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe” crossover was hinted at in last year’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and officially confirmed by Paramount at this year’s CinemaCon. At the conclusion of “Rise of the Beasts,” Anthony Ramos’ character, Noah, encounters a secretive government agent named Burke, played by Michael Kelly of “House of Cards” fame. After saving the world alongside the Autobots, Noah receives a business card from Burke, revealing his connection to the G.I. Joes, a specialized commando team. While the two iconic ’80s brands have intersected in Marvel comics, this marks their first cinematic crossover.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared with Variety at the “Rise of the Beasts” premiere, “Noah transitions from being unable to find a job to landing the best job ever. Incorporating the G.I. Joes felt natural and relatable to the story. It wasn’t just a forced inclusion; fans have high expectations, and we want to meet them. It took time to introduce the Maximals effectively, and now we have a foundation to start the G.I. Joes storyline.”
